If you're not familiar with the magic of writing on the Internet, it goes something like this: You write up something about the team's comments saying that their star linebacker is expected to be back soon. Half an hour later, said star linebacker is reported to be at practice, but not practicing. And before practice starts, the Bears sign two more linebackers to provide practice bodies.
We got a little more clarification today when Brian Urlacher confirmed that he was away from the Bears for personal reasons unrelated to his sore knee, although his knee is still a bit of a concern for him, particularly when it comes to practice. But according to Zach Zaidman...
Brian Urlacher: "September 9th I'll be ready to play for sure. That's really all that matters to me."
So what were we (royal we, of course) worrying about, again? If he's ready for week one against the Colts, that'll do. After all, he doesn't really need training camp except to get used to contact.
So for now, Nick Roach continues to man the middle linebacker until Urlacher is ready.
