Fantasy Analysis: NFL Review - Week 3

With 3 games down, its time to take off the padlocks and start evaluating the truth of your roster - most of the flukes and kinks have shown; anyone performing consistently through 3 weeks has a good chance to sustain at least for the near future...anyone suffering this long without an easy to identify reason isn't likely to explode in the future. Those who have been on again, off again, over 3 weeks should be looked at as "boom or bust" stars for the season, unless it was just 1 down game and you can identify the "why" in their suffering. Match-up based plays will start to have meaning when comparing equal players, and all the rest. Let's take a look at this week and start to project a little both for the upcoming week, and the long run.

US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

***DISCLAIMER***

To standardize some, I rate based on ESPN standard scoring, which is rather close to all standard scoring, namely: 4pt/TD passing, 6pt/TD Rushing, Receiving, D/ST; 1pt/25 YD passing, 1pt/10 yards Rushing & Receiving. 2pt/2pt Conversion, Passing, Rushing, or Receiving. -2pt/INT & FL. D/ST scoring should be found on the ESPN website; this article is already going to get PLENTY long. mnn

Week 3 Review

Quarterback: Top 12: Big Ben, Matt Schaub, Joe Flacco, Andy Dalton, Jake Locker, Christian Ponder, RGIII, Andrew Luck, Matt Ryan, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning and Carson Palmer! No Rodgers, Stafford, Newton, Vick, Eli Manning, Romo, Cutler, etc worth #1 spots this week. 5 of the top 8 were 1st or 2nd year QBs.

Running Back: Charles, MJD, Andre Brown, Rice, LeShoure, McFadden, Foster, Turner, Alfred Morris, Bush, Jacquizz Rodgers, and Benson round out RB1 scoring. Spiller, Daniel Thomas, Peterson, Murray, Richardson, Lynch, Tashard Choice, Woodhead, Ronnie Brown, Ryan Williams, DeAngelo Williams, and BenJarvus Ellis-Green round out RB2 performances.

Wide Receiver: Green, Torrey Smith, C. Johnson, Wallace, Golden Tate, Fitzgerald, Washington, TY Hilton, Burleson, Welker, Holmes, and Cecil Shorts give us the WR1 this week. Stokley, Andre Johnson, Kevin Walter, Lance Moore, Ramses Barden, Decker, Andre Hawkins, Titus Young, Jeremy Kerley, Steve Johnson, Julio Jones, Antonio Brown and Armon Binns round out the WR2 group. Lots of no-name guys in there, showing the boom or bust factor of the WR position, especially in non-PPR formats.

Tight End: Heath Miller, Gonzalez, Kyle Rudolph, Martellus Bennett, Cook, Gresham, V. Davis, Dennis Pitta, Joel Dreessen, Olsen, Fred Davis, and Owen Daniels got TE1 this week.

This Weeks Match-ups

Quarterback: Matt Schaub, Philip Rivers, Aaron Rodgers, Joe Flacco and Peyton Manning all have very favorable match-ups this week...If you are looking for a less "I start him anyway" option, Mark Sanchez and Christian Ponder have favorable looks.

Running Back: You'll start who you'll start, but also consider Cedric Benson, BenJarvus Ellis-Green, Michael Turner, Ben Tate, Ryan Matthews, and Ryan Williams.

Wide Receiver: Obviously you have some must start guys, but others with favorable match-ups include: Vincent Jackson & Mike Williams get a great matchup, Anquan Boldin, Brandon Lloyd, Wes Welker, Malcolm Floyd, and Kevin Walters.

Tight End: Owen Daniels, Kyle Rudolph, Brandon Myers if healthy, Dustin Keller if he is back...This is neglecting all of your obvious top 10 tight ends.

D/ST: The Giants and sadly Cowboys both face very favorable fantasy match-ups this week, to help those limping through a Pittsburgh selection now facing a bye week. The Chargers aren't a bad pick up this week either, if only for this week. Start your top 10 D/ST units based on your scoring systems as expected.
