Earlier today, the Chicago Bears officially placed injured defensive tackle Nate Collins on season ending injured reserve. To take his roster spot, the Bears elevated the newly signed Christian Tupou from the practice squad.
Tupou was originally signed as an undrafted free agent from USC this off season. Here is the info from his combine page at NFL.com.
STRENGTHS Tupou has a motor that doesn't stop. He is good at working his hands and displays obvious technique. He worked under one of the most respected defensive line coaches in terms of technique, Ed Orgeron, and it shows. He is good to work his hands off the snap and be crafty inside.
WEAKNESSES Tupou is a slow athlete who displays only average footwork. He is really exposed when chasing in the open field, where he labors to get moving. He had to overcome an ACL injury late in his career which has really hindered his movements.
In the preseason he recorded 4 tackles and a sack, and received the start in the last game against the Browns. He was signed to the practice squad on Tuesday, and the Bears cut DE Aston Whiteside to make room for him. No word if Whiteside will return to the PS.
