Chris Mortensen dropped a bomb during Monday Night Football's pre-game show on ESPN regarding Jay Cutler, who was expected to miss 4-6 weeks after tearing his groin muscle in Week 7 versus the Washington Redskins.
Mortensen reported something that wide receiver Brandon Marshall speculated about last week: that the Bears starting quarterback could be back after only two weeks.
Mortensen reported before Monday night's game versus the Packers that Jay Cutler is expected to return next week versus the Detroit Lions, which would mean the veteran QB would only have missed Monday's game versus the Packers (last week was a Bye). Hard to fathom? Yes. But Mortensen wasn't just speculating.
Of course, Cutler has to be medically cleared to return, but we know he has a tendency to heal a little quicker than some of his peers. Cutler has bounced back sooner than expected from previous concussions, and the healing time from his broken thumb in 2011 and his torn MCL in 2010 was noted by doctors to be significantly ahead of schedule.
Despite the mostly media-generated questions regarding his toughness in recent years, those who follow Chicago Bears football know that Jay Cutler will do anything he can to keep from sitting on the sideline. Torn groin? Meh, couple weeks tops.
Will Cutler return next week? Stay tuned...
