The saddest songs in the world that were written about Jay Cutler

Why is Jay Cutler so sad? What song lyrics are probably written about him?

USA TODAY Sports

There have been a lot of sad songs written over the last 100 years or so... probably more than 20 in total, if you really want to know. Of all of those sad songs, a large majority of them have been written about Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, more than likely.

We don't want to get into all of them, because that would be way too sad, but here are a few of the more famous ones written specifically about Cutler.

HURT- (Trent Reznor):

I hurt myself today, to see if I still feel.
I focus on the pain... the only thing that's real.
The needle tears a hole the old familiar sting...
Try to kill it all away, but I remember everything.

What have I become, my sweetest friend?
Everyone I know goes away in the end...
And you could have it all- my empire of dirt.
I will let you down... I will make you hurt.

PICTURES OF YOU - (Robert Smith/ The Cure, about Cutler wanting Brandon Marshall):

Remembering you standing quiet in the rain
As I ran to your heart to be near
And we kissed as the sky fell in, holding you close
How I always held close in your fear

Remembering you running soft through the night
You were bigger, brighter and whiter* than snow
Screamed at the make believe, screamed at the sky
And you finally found all your courage to let it all go

*Smith was confused on Marshall's race, he later admitted

EVERYBODY HURTS - (Michael Stipe/ REM):

Everybody hurts
Take comfort in your friends.
Everybody hurts
Don't throw your hand. Oh, no
Don't throw your hand
If you feel like you're alone, no, no, no, you are not alone

CAT'S IN THE CRADLE - (Harry Chapin, written for Cutler's new son way ahead of time):

My son turned ten just the other day
He said, "Thanks for the ball, Dad, come on let's play
Can you teach me to throw?" I said "Not today
I got a lot to do", he said, "That's ok"
And he walked away but his smile never dimmed
And said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah
You know I'm gonna be like him"

I CAN'T MAKE YOU LOVE ME - (Bonnie Raitt, writing on behalf of Cutler):

Cause I can't make you love me if you don't
You can't make your heart feel something it won't
Here in the dark, in these final hours
I will lay down my heart and I'll feel the power
But you won't, no you won't
'Cause I can't make you love me, if you don't...

CREEP - (Thom York/ Radiohead, existentially):

I'm a creep
I'm a weirdo
What the hell am I doin' here?
I don't belong here

I don't care if it hurts
I wanna have control
I want a perfect body
I want a perfect soul

I want you to notice
When I'm not around
You're so f**king' special
I wish I was special

AGAINST ALL ODDS (TAKE A LOOK AT ME NOW) - (Phil Collins, foreseeing Cutler and Mike Martz's relationship)

I wish I could just make you turn around,
turn around and see me cry
There's so much I need to say to you,
so many reasons why
You're the only one who really knew me at all

So take a look at me now,
'cos there's just an empty space
And there's nothing left here to remind me,
just the memory of your face
Take a look at me now...

This is just a sample of sad songs written about Jay Cutler, by an obviously forward-thinking group of song writers. Feel free to let us know what other songs were probably written about him that we left out.
