Terrell Owens Wants to Return with the Bears? Say it Ain't So...

Terrell Owens hasn't had a job in the NFL in two seasons. His last season was in 2010 with the Bengals when he had his lowest yards-per-reception in nine years.

Yet, like an old Brett Favre, Owens just won't go away. Owens is in Chicago to participate in a charity basketball event later today and spent Friday working out with Napoleon Harris, current Illinois State Senator and former NFL linebacker. I think you know where this is going - Owens wants to return to the NFL, and wants to return with the Bears.

"I played my first early years in San Francisco with [Bears head coach Marc Trestman] and shortly after that, he left to do some things," he said. "I haven't talked to Marc in a long while. I know he's gone on and done some things, now he's back in the NFL. So, I never really thought about it until myself and Napoleon were talking about it earlier, but I would definitely welcome it if they would give it some serious consideration. To think about [Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall] on the other side and me on one side, that's really dangerous. I'm keeping myself in shape just for any opportunity that may come about."

I should clarify - according to David Kaplan, Owens wants to return to the Bears. Sounds more to me like a "Hey, I'm ready if they come calling" than a "Please I'm doing a Vince Young impression give me a job," but you never know with these quotes.

Owens and Harris did have some praise to heap on Owens' former offensive coordinator with the Niners.

"Coach Trestman has a great football mind and he will get the most out of the talent the Bears have," Owens told me. "Guys like Jay Cutler, Brandon Marshall and Matt Forte will be even better playing for Coach Trestman."

"Coach Trestman is a great coach who will take that Bears offense to the next level," Harris said. "He will get the most out of the talent on the offense making the Bears very tough to beat. Jay Cutler has all of the tools and I am confident that Coach Trestman will help him achieve all he is capable of."

Anyway, when I first heard the report, my first reaction was to come screaming to the site and just post "NONONONONO" about 150 times just to make the word count, but that wouldn't be a very interesting read. So I thought instead, I'd sum up my thoughts by murdering the hell out of a song, complete in hyperbole and inaccuracies. Serious Thoughts: Okay, being serious, he's not an ace receiver at this stage in his career, and he's saying all the right things about accepting a reduced package. The question is, can he even play? No team's wanted to find out in two years if he could play in the regular season (the Seahawks released him prior to the 2012 season and he was never signed in 2011) and in 2013 he'll be all of 40 years old. Plus, he'd have to contribute on specials - that's not been something he's done in his career. So, still hanging the "I'm Not Interested" sign.
