2013 NFL Draft: Chicago Bears Trade Down In Fifth Round

The Bears turned their fifth-round pick into a fifth and a seventh, as Atlanta traded up to pick defensive end Stansley Maponga.

The Bears picked up an extra seventh round pick and dealt their fifth round pick to the Falcons, who used the pick to grab Stansley Maponga, a defensive end out of TCU.

In the deal, the Bears traded pick 20 of the 5th round, 153 overall, to the Falcons for their pick 30 of the 5th round, 163 overall, and a seventh round pick, the 236th overall. So the Bears get an extra pick in this year's draft.

Moon Mullin theorized the Bears were looking at Miami defensive back Brandon McGee before he was taken.

Entering the draft, the Bears only had five draft picks, and this at least gives them a sixth pick. And somehow, I get the suspicion that Maponga wasn't on the Bears' radar. Just a hunch.

But as of writing this, we'll find out in seven picks who the Bears might have had their eye on. Stay tuned...
