Helmet tip to SMD for this one.
I'm aware defensive tackle isn't really the biggest need in the draft for the Bears, so you might be wondering why we're looking at two of them this weekend. Well, Kawann Short isn't Jesse Williams - where Williams is a power defensive tackle, primarily and particularly adept at stopping the run, Short is a penetrating, pass-rushing defensive tackle that can also make plays in the backfield.
Short would have come out last year had he gotten a high draft grade, but returned to school after receiving a third-round grade. In his junior season, he picked up First Team All-Big Ten honors as well as team MVP, as well as packed extra power onto his frame.
Short's greatest problem is his consistency and leverage - he occasionally has played streaky and sometimes doesn't use his technique and leverage to their best effectiveness.
CBS ranks Short as the 28th overall prospect and fifth defensive tackle - their four main mocks have him going to the Cowboys (18th), Broncos (28th), Packers (26th) and Patriots (29th). WalterFootball also puts Short to the Patriots at 29.
Does Short give you a rush as a Bears fan? Where would you take him?
