Chicago Bears cut FB Evan Rodriguez, sign FB Tony Fiametta

After a disappointing off-season, the Bears are cutting ties with one of Phil Emery's first picks. Additionally, they think they've found the guy who could be his replacement.

Per Brad Biggs of the Sun Times:

The Bears cut ties with Evan Rodriguez after a disappointing offseason regarding Rodriguez's personal choices. Arrested twice in the last three months, the most recent run-in involved a citation for driving under the influence, amongst other charges.

Rodriguez played in 12 games year, starting in just under half, and had just four catches for 21 yards.

But with every cut, comes an opportunity, and that is exactly what is happening for FB Tony Fiametta. Per his agent:

Fiammetta is a free agent fullback who was amongst a group of tryouts at Halas all last week. Drafted in the fourth round of the 2009 draft by the Panthers, he played two seasons there, before playing with the Cowboys in 2011.

In 2012, he signed with the Patriots, but was placed on the left squad list to take care of a family issue. He was reactivated and released by the Patriots earlier this offseason. With nothing statistically impressive in FIammetta's career (not uncommon at the fullback position), the 26 year old out of Syracuse must have made a solid impression on the coaching staff late last week.
