1) The 4th quarter NaVorro Bowman goal line fumble recovery not being a reviewable play is an absolute joke. He clearly took the ball away, and had sole possession while on the turf. I guarantee there will be a few changes to the replay rules this off season. There has been a handful of ridiculous non-reviewable plays like that this year.
2) Seattle strong safety Kam Chancellor is a damn good player. When he was coming out of college I didn't think he had the speed or coverage ability to excel in the NFL at safety, I was wrong. When ever I see him make a play, I think of a guy we used to have around our comment section that praised Chancellor every time he had a chance.
When it came to Kam, he apparently really did No It All...
3) That was an awesome play by Seattle corner Richard Sherman in the waning seconds of the NFC Championship game, and an interesting post game interview on FOX. He seemed just a little angry. I do agree with him though, he is the best corner in the NFL.
4) Peyton Manning has really been managing his offense to a T the last two weeks. He kept the Chargers defense off guard with his cadence -- OMAHA -- and run/pass balance last week, then yesterday he shredded the Patriots secondary for 400 yards through the air. And by the way, he hasn't been sacked this postseason, after being sacked a league low 20 times during the regular season.
5) LeGarrette Blount found a little less room to run this week. After going nuts with 4 rushing TDs and 166 yards last week, he managed just 6 yards on 5 attempts against the Broncos.
6) This Super Bowl will feature the league's best offense vs the league's best defense. Who are you taking?
Even though the NFL has evolved into an offensive (passing) league, I have to go with the Seahawks for this game. I think their secondary will beat the snot out of the Denver receivers. If the refs let them play, and often times in the Super Bowl they do, Seattle will win.
7) The Cleveland Browns appear to be enamored with Johnny Manziel, so much so they may trade up for him.
Do you think Manziel will be a good pro?
For the record, I think he'll be good, as long as his body holds up. Manziel plays a reckless style, and he'll need to learn how to protect himself against the bigger, stronger and faster players in the NFL.
8) Heading over to the NFC North, I liked the hire of Mike Zimmer by the Minnesota Vikings to be their next head coach, and grabbing Norv Turner as offensive coordinator is a solid move by them too.
The Detroit Lions went with the polar opposite of former head coach Jim Schwartz. New head coach Jim Caldwell is an offensive mind that is known to be calm and collected, whereas Schwartz' claim to fame was being a defensive wiz and a blowhard jackass.
Zimmer will need to figure out his quarterback conundrum, and Caldwell will have to corral his team's aggressive nature. I see each having a positive impact, and the NFC North will be very competitive next year.
9) Yes that was Martellus Bennett's big brother Michael causing havoc for the Seahawks again on Sunday. Against the 49ers he had 3 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. That's a pretty good encore after hitting the New Orleans Saints with 6 tackles, a half a sack, a tackle for loss, a QB hit, 2 forced fumbles and a fumble recovery the previous week.
Martellus has vowed to heavily recruit Michael to the Bears this off season, and he's no doubt looking for some long term security after playing on a one year deal with Seattle. He's only 28 years old, so he has some good football left in him, and I think a 4 year contract could work for both parties.
10) Kudos to Charles Tillman for being named a finalist for the Walter Payton Man Of The Year Award. Few players have come through Chicago that have been as great off the field like Peanut has. For the sake of the community I hope he sticks around after his Bears days are over.
