Santonio Holmes released by the Chicago Bears

Earlier today the Chicago Bears released their 2nd player in as many days. We'll go over the those two moves plus take a peek at their current practice squad.

One day after releasing cornerback Teddy Williams the Chicago Bears did this,

#Bears have waived WR Santonio Holmes, signed WR Rashad Lawrence to practice squad, and terminated LB Terrell Manning from practice squad.
— Chicago Bears (@ChicagoBears) November 11, 2014

I would assume that wide receiver Marquess Wilson is close to being activated and if healthy, he would slide into the #3 WR spot.

#Bears WR coach Mike Groh on Marquess Wilson: "He worked hard and got a lot of work (last) week. He looked good."
— Brad Biggs (@BradBiggs) November 11, 2014

Santonio Holmes simply wasn't needed any longer. Josh Morgan can fill the backup veteran role and it would seem that Chris Williams will take over the punt return position. As a returner in the CFL, Williams was more prolific returning punts than he was kicks anyway.

Rashad Lawrence, who played collegiately at Northwestern, is 6'1", 196 pounds and he ran a 4.49 forty at his 2014 pro day. He was a co-captain in 2013 and as a Senior he caught 31 balls for 463 yards and a touchdown.

He joins a Bears' practice squad that currently includes WR Josh Bellamy, G Conor Boffeli, DT Brandon Dunn, QB David Fales, S Shamiel Gary, TE Jacob Maxwell and T Jason Weaver.

Do you see any diamonds in the rough among these practice squaders?
