Chicago Bears place Lance Briggs on Injured Reserve

With the team putting him on IR, we may never see Lance Briggs in a Chicago Bears uniform again.

I can't say I was surprised by this...

Even though the Chicago Bears are still technically alive for a post season spot, at 5-7, their season is pretty much over. No point in putting 12 year veteran Lance Briggs out there when the 2014 Bears need to figure out what they have for 2015. Briggs is in the final year of his contract and the odds of him returning to play next year are slim.

Lance made 7 straight Pro Bowls from 2005-2011. His 173 games played is 11th in team history. He trails only Brian Urlacher in tackles as a Bear. His 6 defensive TDs is 3rd most in team history.

Briggs has a history of saying things that has ruffled fans' feathers, but he's one of the best Bears players in franchise history.

With Briggs out for the season, expect to see Jon Bostic playing the weakside outside linebacker position for the remainder of the year.
