Chicago Bears re-sign Taylor Boggs and Derrick Martin

The Chicago Bears re-signed a couple of their own free agents today. Both center Taylor Boggs and defensive back Derrick Martin agreed to one year deals.

Dennis Wierzbicki-USA TODAY Spor

As I predicted in my look at the Chicago Bears Center position in my 2014 Roster Turnover Series, the Bears did indeed re-sign exclusive rights free agent Taylor Boggs. It was such a no-brainer to bring a guy back that would be very reasonably priced, and that the team obviously liked after having him active all of last year.

Best case scenario, they have Boggs around for another off season to monitor his improvement. Worst case scenario, they upgrade the position elsewhere and cut Boggs. If Boggs fails to make the team, his smallish one year contract won't hurt the cap.

Edit: Rotoworld is reporting that Boggs' one year deal is for $645,000.

And it seems Boggs has at least one fan in the locker room.

They also signed defensive back Derrick Martin to a one year deal today. Martin has played safety, corner and nickle in his eight years as a pro, but it was on special teams where he made his hay in Chicago.

Martin will provide some DB insurance to the free agent depleted secondary of the Bears.

Just in case you missed it, last week the Bears signed free agent cornerback Derricus Purdy. The 6', 190 pounder played at Texas Southern and went undrafted during the 2013 NFL draft.

What are your thoughts on these recent signings?
