When the 2013 season ended, you could have identified 80% of the defensive positions as needing an upgrade, and general manager Phil Emery is wasting no time in overhauling the historically bad unit now that Free Agency is officially underway.
The Chicago Bears have announced a two-year deal with safety Ryan Mundy.
Must Reads
Mundy's stats from 2013:
16 games, started 10
1 sack, 1 pick for 91 yards, 1 PD, 1 Fumble recovery, 50 tackles
Mundy is 6'1, 210, and known to be a physical defensive back.
The Chicago Bears secondary is in need of an overhaul, and safety Major Wright is not expected to be re-signed.
Keep in mind, however, that not every player signed will be expected to be an All-Pro. Mundy will be a solid addition, and will provide competition, but we should temper our expectations of every single player being a world-beater.
Also announced was the signing of LB/ Special Teams ace Jordan Senn, who played for the Panthers from 2009-2013. Senn was previously a special teams captain for Carolina and will be a good replacement for Blake Costanzo, who is not expected to return to Chicago.
We will have more details on the contracts once they become available.... In the meantime, track all Free Agency moves for the Chicago Bears HERE.
