Jeremiah Ratliff signed with the Chicago Bears in November of last season, making his 2013 debut in week 13 versus the Minnesota Vikings.
As Lester Wiltfong noted in his positional review for defensive tackles, Ratliff wasn't dominant, but played well enough to earn a shot at a contract extension.
Must Reads
On Wednesday, the Bears announced they had indeed re-signed Ratliff to a two-year/ $4 million contract. Ratliff joins Stephen Paea as the only DT's currently under contract for Chicago, with Free Agency less than a week away. Of course, most eyes are on Henry Melton, the former All-Pro defensive tackle who was lost early last season with a torn ACL.
Will the Bears make any other moves related to DT before Free Agency? Nate Collins stepped in for Melton last year, but tore his own ACL the following week and was lost for the season. Landon Cohen was also on the roster, but is not someone who will compete for a starting position if he is brought back.
Stay tuned...
