Chicago Bears re-sign Eben Britton

... and you thought the Chicago Bears were done with free agency. Earlier today the team re-signed back up offensive lineman Eben Britton.

The Chicago Bears made a move that won't garner much praise nationally, but Bears fans know how important Eben Britton was to the offense last year.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>LM: <a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23Bears&amp;src=hash">#Bears</a> have retained veteran OL Eben Britton, who has agreed to a 1-year contract.</p>&mdash; Chicago Bears (@ChicagoBears) <a href="https://twitter.com/ChicagoBears/statuses/451762037065277441">April 3, 2014</a></blockquote>

Britton, who can play tackle and guard, also took some center reps last off season to better prepare himself for a reserve role. He probably didn't expect to be thrust into the role of back up tight end, but the veteran lineman did so with ease.

Head coach Marc Trestman started using Britton as his primary blocking tight end after only a few games and he performed admirably.

With starting right tackle Jordan Mills rehabbing from foot surgury, Britton could get some valuable time with the starters early in camp. I would not be surprised to see Britton impress enough to become a serious threat to start in 2014.
