The Bears have finished the third and final day of their rookie minicamp, to which 38 tryout players were invited to join the team's draft picks, UDFA signings, and some first year players. Here's a roundup of what the beat reporters were sharing from today.
If you're going to learn, learn from the best:
Rookie punter Pat O'Donnell says he's been getting advice on how to deal with the wind in Chicago from veteran #Bears kicker Robbie Gould.
— Zach Zaidman (@ZachZaidman) May 18, 2014
Former Miami P Pat O'Donnell on dealing with the wind in Chicago: "A little different than Florida, but I'll be ready for the challenge."
— Zach Zaidman (@ZachZaidman) May 18, 2014
Something to strive for, though it would be more noteworthy if he'd come out of minicamp and said the opposite:
#Bears top draft pick Kyle Fuller following rookie minicamp: "I definitely feel like I have a better understanding of the defense."
— Zach Zaidman (@ZachZaidman) May 18, 2014
Marc Trestman seemed to like what he saw from some of the tryout players:
Trestman: "We've got a few tryout guys that we'll look to bring back."
— Zach Zaidman (@ZachZaidman) May 18, 2014
Trestman: "The guys in our locker room know that we won't be the same team tomorrow. We'll have new guys in our locker room."
— Zach Zaidman (@ZachZaidman) May 18, 2014
The first change has already been announced:
#Bears will be releasing punter Drew Butler. It's down to Pat O'Donnell and Tress Way.
— Adam Jahns (@adamjahns) May 18, 2014
Timing of the move gives Butler a better chance to catch on w/another team before training camp. #Bears

...and, going the other way:
Agent @JoshStevens1976) reports #Bears signing North Texas DB Marcus Grice following rookie minicamp tryout.
— Brad Biggs (@BradBiggs) May 18, 2014
My apologies. North Texas S Marcus Trice. Typo on last tweet. #Bears signing him after rookie minicamp tryout.
— Brad Biggs (@BradBiggs) May 18, 2014
Trice is listed at 5'8" and 193lbs according to his North Texas bio; click here for numbers from his pro day. Here are some highlights from the past season:
A few general thoughts on the offense from Marc Trestman:
Marc Trestman on the offense: "There's a comfort level, but there's not a complacent level with how we're handling things."
— Zach Zaidman (@ZachZaidman) May 18, 2014
Marc Trestman: "There certainly is a sense of confidence, a sense that we've got a chance to be a very good offense."
— Zach Zaidman (@ZachZaidman) May 18, 2014
Trestman: "We've started with: This is a football and we've worked our way into each and every phase in a normal progression."
— Zach Zaidman (@ZachZaidman) May 18, 2014
And, as a heads-up for tomorrow morning:
#Bears GM Phil Emery will be live in studio on Monday at 8 am CT with @mullyhanley on @670TheScore
— Zach Zaidman (@ZachZaidman) May 18, 2014
What are your thoughts (preferably those that don't involve incoherent gibbering about Ka'Deem Carey's draft position versus that of a certain QB who is neither a Bear nor has any connection with the Bears) following the conclusion of rookie minicamp?
