Thanks to the wonderful Twitterverse, news about our favorite sports team is instantaneously available. We ran down some info on Jay Cutler earlier today, but now we'll hit on some other random news that came out of the first mini camp practice for the Chicago Bears.
For that Cutler stuff click here, "It was a hit parade", and for everything else continue on...
The middle linebacker battle has a "lead dog" and that dog is veteran D.J. Williams.
While not getting the "lead dog" designation, rookie Brock Vereen was still running with the starters at free safety.
Starting right tackle Jordan Mills sat out as a precaution with his foot injury, and starting left guard Matt Slauson was held out after his surgery. Mills is further along in his rehab, and both should be full go by training camp.
Backup safety Craig Steltz was also held out of the majority of practice.
Rookie defensive tackle Will Sutton, 2nd year linebacker Khaseem Greene and safety Chris Conte, were all excused from practice for "family reasons."
Quarterback Jordan Palmer is just about back from his minor injury and he better get to work because one of the five QBs on the current roster is sure to be cut.
Trestman doesn't remember ever taking 5 QBs to camp. #Bears have a decision to make after minicamp.

Jimmy Clausen may be Palmer's biggest roster threat...
Cutler says Clausen has peppered him with questions about the offense. He says Clausen has been humbled by his NFL experience.

Even though QB Jerrod Johnson was running with the twos today.
Now for some rapid fire Tweets...
Trestman on Bostic: "He's competing at a very high level."

Trestman on Bostic: "To write off anybody right now would be a mistake."

Marc Trestman piped in crowd noise at practice today. Good way to test his QB's knowledge of plays/signals. #Bears

#Bears also had some players here on a tryout basis.

QB Jordan Palmer was not limited on Tuesday. But it sure looks as if Jimmy Clausen is gaining ground in quest to win a roster spot. #Bears

Trestman says the ball was on the ground too much in practice today, but says he asked the players to do a bunch of new things offensively.

Martellus Bennett lost weight, calls himself 'a tight end with a tight end'

Told @MartysaurusRex that no one says stock answers like him. He says he's the "Jay Z of interviews" adding he's slimmed down and "sexier".
