Does your town have any NFL connections?

New, comments

As we eagerly await the start of training camp this week there is not a whole lot to talk about regarding the Bears. It's a nice time to get to know our members a little bit better, so why not ask what, if any, NFL connections your town may have?

From time to time the staff at WCG has massive group emails where we make fun of each other and talk about how to make this site better. Recently, in one of these emails it came up that I currently live in the hometown of former Chicago Bears wash out Rick Mirer.

That got us wondering, what other NFL connections might our readers have?

NFL players come from a lot of different cities and towns across the country and I suppose it doesn't even have to be an NFL player, maybe a player lived in the same town or neighborhood as you when they played for a particular team, or a legendary college football player hails from your hometown or the city you live in.

I grew up in Grayslake, Ill., a far-northern Chicago suburb and legend had it that Mike Ditka briefly lived in town when he coached the Bears, and attended the Catholic church in town. When I was in high school, former Bears defensive end Alex Brown lived in Grayslake and one of my good friends lived down the road from him, so we'd occasionally see him around town or in his front yard.

So, we want to hear your connections: did you ever live in close proximity to an NFL player? And if you live or lived in Vernon Hills, Lake Forest or Libertyville, Ill. then you probably lived in the same town as any number of Bears players over the last 30 years....
