Chicago Bears Training Camp: Day One Practice Recap

The Chicago Bears were doing actual football stuff on a football field today, and we've got some of the neater details.

The Chicago Bears have a few spots up for grabs that will need to be sorted out in the next couple of weeks, so make sure you stay abreast off all the position battles by checking out our story stream. We'll eventually hit on 11 different position groups so be sure to check back each day.

As far as who was starting today...

With Kyle Long recovering from an illness, Eben Britton started at right guard. On the defensive side of the ball, the first team safeties were Ryan Mundy and rookie Brock Vereen. They began the team portion of practice in nickel, so Tim Jennings was inside at nickelback with rookie Kyle Fuller starting at corner. The middle linebacker was Jon Bostic.

The Bears lined defensive end Lamarr Houston up at defensive tackle on a few snaps with defensive end Willie Young in at LDE.

When they went to their base 4-3 defense, it was D.J. Williams at the Mike and Shea McClellin at the Sam.

Fuller picked off both veteran back up quarterbacks and he was also beat down the right sideline by speedy wide out Chris Williams.

Speaking of the two vet QBs, Jimmy Clausen and Jordan Palmer split reps with the twos, while rookie David Fales was working with the threes and fours.

Three players weren't dressed today: OG Kyle Long, and safeties Chris Conte and Craig Steltz.

Now for some quick hitting tweets from camp.

For the record, Jay Cutler threw a pick as well.

What are your thoughts after the first practice?
