Chicago Bears Training Camp 2014: August 5 recap

Here's the recap from today's Chicago Bears training camp practice down at Bourbonnais. Only three more days until the Bears face the Philadelphia Eagles in the preseason opener.

Jerry Lai-USA TODAY Sports

Before we get into today's Chicago Bears practice recap, the team announced that Marquess Wilson underwent successful surgery on his fractured clavicle. There is still no timetable for his return, although recovery time for players with similar injuries fell in the 3 month range.

The Bears have plans to sign a wide receiver in the next 48 hours. All you Earl Bennett fans be sure to cross your fingers! Then again...

Cornerback Isaiah Frey sat out a portion of practice after injuring his right hamstring. Right tackle Jordan Mills, who is dealing with some soreness in the foot he broke last season, also missed part of practice. Offensive lineman Eben Britton and corner Tim Jennings are still sitting out. Safeties Chris Conte and Craig Steltz still have yet to be cleared to practice.

Speaking of safeties, it was Ryan Mundy and Adrian Wilson again beginning the day with the ones. It sure seems like this will be the opening tandem for Friday's preseason opener.

Defensive end Jared Allen was excused again today for "family reasons" and it's unsure when he'll return.

EDIT:

Congrats to #69 and family!

Wide out Brandon Marshall was given a veteran's day off.

And in case you missed it earlier, Martellus Bennett was fined and suspended for his altercation at practice yesterday. Keep in mind this isn't the first time Bennett was the center of a practice scuffle and, with a head coach that plans his practices out to the minute, a message had to be sent. Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune also speculates there may be a deeper reason for Bennett's time out.

I don't expect the suspension to be very lengthy, nor do I expect there to be any lingering ill will,

Now on to some tweets...

What are your thoughts on today's practice?
