With starting inside linebacker Shea McClellin ailing with a knee injury, the Chicago Bears promoted rookie undrafted free agent Jonathan Anderson from their practice squad to fill the final spot on the 53 man roster.
During preseason the 6'3', 227 pound TCU product had seven tackles, two sacks, three tackles for loss, and a forced fumble while playing defense. Anderson also added two tackles on special teams.
Yesterday Brad Biggs reported that the Bears worked out linebackers Lawrence Sidbury, Trevardo Williams and Jonathan Massaquoi, but ultimately the Bears stayed in house to fill the roster spot that was opened when David Fales was cut. For more on yesterday's roster moves, click here.
Five Questions With Frogs O' War About Jonathan Anderson
We're visiting the SB Nation college sites of the Chicago Bears' rookie class to gain some insight on their newest players. Today we'll talk to Melissa Triebwasser of Frogs O' War about an undrafted free agent, linebacker Jonathan Anderson of TCU.
I do find it interesting that the Bears chose to promote Anderson over fellow UDFA ILB John Timu, who originally made the team out of training camp. This just shows how hard Anderson has been working at practice the last month.
With McClellin expected to miss this weeks game against the Detroit Lions, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio says that Anderson is in the mix to start in his place. It was LaRoy Reynolds that filled in when Shea was hurt on Sunday, and Fangio had thoughts on him missing time.

In other injury news, wide out Alshon Jeffery returned to practice, albeit on a limited basis. Also limited was left tackle Jermon Bushrod, who was back at practice after passing the concussion protocol. Others limited were wide out Josh Bellmany, defensive linemen Ego Ferguson, Will Sutton and Jeramiah Ratliff, outside linebacker Pernell McPhee, and finally offensive lineman Patrick Omameh, who the Bears interestingly listed as a guard/tackle.
Besides McClellin missing today's practice, the Bears also held out safety Antrel Rolle, wide out Eddie Royal, and corner Terrance Mitchell.
Here's the Detroit Lions injury list.
