When the Chicago Bears take on the Minnesota Vikings this weekend at Soldier Field, there will be several storylines to follow, including two of the league's best running backs hoping to carry enough the offensive load to help their teams to victory.
Matt Forte has been by far the most consistent player for the Chicago Bears offense this season, and is making a case for an All-Pro bid if his production continues at the pace he's currently on. Forte is healthy, and playing with a chip on his shoulder after using the Bye week for even more work while much of the rest of his team rested.
On the other side of the field, Adrian Peterson is a guy that is still churning out yardage, but has been limited this week with a hip and ankle injury. He's expected to play, but he could see a reduction in carries if he isn't healthy enough to grind it out.
A statistical comparison so far this season-
Matt Forte: 126 carries, 502 yards, 2 TD | 21 receptions, 191 yards, 1 TD
Adrian Peterson: 120 carries, 530 yards, 3 TD | 13 receptions, 101 yards, 0 TD
From a defensive perspective, Chicago ranks 26th in rushing yards allowed per game (124.8), but is tied for 1st in total rushing touchdowns allowed this season (2). Minnesota ranks 14th in rushing yards allowed per game (106), and has only allowed three rushing touchdowns.
These two teams are very similar from a statistical standpoint, and this weekend's battle should be fun for fantasy owners.
We'll set a quick Over/Under for the running backs, and you can let us know your thoughts:
O/U-
- Rushing yards: 80
- Rushing TD's: 1.5
- Receiving yards: 25
- Receiving TD's: 0.5
Which running back do you think will have the better game?
