All of the usual suspects were either limited or sitting out today's practice for the Chicago Bears, more on them later, but it was Patrick Omameh's ankle injury that could be problematic. Omameh was the fill in at left guard when the usual starter, Matt Slauson, moved over to handle center duties on Sunday against the Oakland Raiders.
With the Bears placing starting center Will Montgomery on season ending injured reserve, it was expected that Slauson would continue working at center for the foreseeable future. But with Omameh missing practice today, the Bears had rookie 3rd round draft pick Hroniss Grasu taking some starters reps in the middle of their line.
When asked about his status for this week's game in Kansas City, Grasu said, "That decision is up to coach Fox and whatever decision is made, I'll do whatever it takes to help this team win."
I think it's safe to say that the interior of Chicago's offensive line is in a state of flux.
Chicago's defense has some uncertainty surrounding the safety position as well. Starter Antrel Rolle left Sunday's game with an ankle injury and he was replaced by rookie Harold Jones-Quartey. When asked how Jones-Quartey looked, Bears' defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said, "that he needs more work."
Rolle also missed practice today and with the Bears adding two safeties this week, Demontre Hurst and Sherrod Martin, I would suspect Rolle misses his first game since 2010.
Other Bears that sat out today were LT Jermon Bushrod (concussion/shoulder), WR Eddie Royal (ankle) and DB Sherrick McManis (hamstring).
If Bushrod can't go, expect Charles Leno Jr. to receive his 2nd consecutive start at left tackle. McManis may be in danger of losing his job at nickle to Tracy Porter, because Porter filled in outside for Alan Ball last Sunday and he looked very good.
Speaking of Ball, he was limited today with his sore groin. Other Bears limited at practice were QB Jay Cutler (hamstring), WR Alshon Jeffery (hamstring), DL Jeremiah Ratliff (ankle), ILB Shea McClellin (elbow), Pat O'Donnell (knee), DL Will Sutton (biceps/elbow) and Kyle Long (back/ankle).
