Number one on every fans lips should be a Super Bowl victory, but since the current group of players aren't quite good enough to make the playoffs, we'll probably have to get a little more specific with Santa Claus.
Here's what I think Chicago general manager Ryan Pace should be asking Santa for this Christmas.
More talent in the trenches
The Bears need an upgrade on the offensive line and the defensive line. The improvement they need could be found in house if nose tackle Eddie Goldman, right tackle Kyle Long, left tackle Charles Leno and center Hroniss Grasu all take steps in play this offseason. But defensive end and right guard both need an upgrade either via draft or free agency.
I like a few of the DEs on the current roster, but they're more rotational players. The Bears need a badass. A badass would be nice at right guard as well. Perhaps the Bears flip Long back there this offseason, but I think it's more likely they keep him at RT and look for a RG.
A healthy Kevin White and Alshon Jeffery
Pace drafted Kevin White with the 7th overall selection to be a playmaker. He has go-up-and-get-it size, he has 4.35 forty speed, and he has the strength to pick up yards after catch. He's reportedly 100% healed, but the Bears can't afford any set backs as he gets ready for the 2016 season.
As for Jeffery, I fully expect the Bears to bring him back in 2016, whether with a new long term deal or with the franchise tag. When he played this year he proved he can be a legit #1 wide out. I also don't think he's injury prone, I just think he had a lingering calf injury this offseason that stalled his ability to properly condition. And that led to a number of other lower body injuries (the hamstring being the most severe) that has hampered his season. Remember that Jeffery played in all 16 games in 2013 and 2014, so I chalk this up to a fluke season.
An asskicker at inside linebacker
Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio needs an intimidating presence manning the middle of his D. Someone that can get downhill in a hurry and punish a ball carrier. That guy isn't on the roster right now. I think John Timu has the physical traits to be that guy, but his UDFA resume makes him a long-shot to blossom in 2016.
These are just a few things I think Santa Claus should put under the tree at Halas Hall.
What would you guys like to see him give the Bears this Christmas?
