UPDATED: Chicago Bears free agency rumors and news

Happy New Year everybody! The NFL's league year begins later this afternoon (3pm Central) so use this Open Thread to talk about your desires for the 2015 Chicago Bears.

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

We've been updating our Free Agency Rumor Tracker since the weekend, but now that we upon the actual start of free agency, we wanted to give you a new playground to dive into. That thread is still live, just in case you wanted to go check it out, but at 550 comments, it's a bit hectic.

We'll update this article throughout the day with any rumors and news items that are pertinent to Chicago Bears fans, and if anything big breaks we'll be sure to get an article up ASAP.

In case you missed it, Bears reportedly set to ink OLB Pernell McPhee and Jay Cutler isn't going anywhere.

Here are a few rumors that have been floating around the last few days.

Denver Broncos DT Terrence Knighton is still deciding on a future home for his services. It seemed he was set to join his former defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio in Oakland, but now he's thinking about joining John Fox, his former head coach, in Chicago.

ESPN's Josina Anderson reports the Bears, Oakland Raiders, Washington Redskins and Indianapolis Colts are among the clubs showing "serious interest" in Knighton.

EDIT: 425pmCST

From Josina Anderson;

Just spoke with free agent DT Terrance Knighton: "The #Raiders made me an offer but it's not close to what I was looking for. So as of right now the #Raiders and #Broncos are out of the race. A lot of people had me going to the Raiders because of Jack Del Rio, but I'm now focusing on a few other teams right now."

The Houston Texans' outside linebacker Brooks Reed, who is well versed in the 3-4 defense, was leaning towards the Atlanta Falcons, but now he's wavering. Chicago is one of his options. EDIT: Reed is going to Atlanta

Tampa Bay inside linebacker Mason Foster would be a good run plugger for the Bears.

Green Bay Packers corner Davon House is in the mix with the Bears. EDIT: Not anymore - He's going to Jacksonville.

Safety Antrel Rolle, formerly of the New York Giants, appears to be a target of the Bears as does Buffalo safety Da'Norris Searcy.

While Searcy looks unlikely, Rolle remains a viable option for the Bears, but he wants to let the free agent process play out. Rolle appears to to be a Bear.

Since new Chicago O.C. Adam Gase hasn't used fullbacks in the past, the Bears need a 2nd (solid) tight end, and they appear to be in on former Bronco Virgil Green. He's someone Sam spotlighted here a few weeks ago. Not any more...

Wide out Brian Hartline decided to join the Cleveland Browns.

Also, the Chicago Bears have informed linebacker D.J. Williams that he is not in their 2015 plans.

NT Dan Williams is still an option for the Bears, but he's in the mix with the Raiders and Giants too. EDIT: Bears were informed that Williams will sign elsewhere.

One player is close to coming off the market...

... but, Searcy is still listening to other teams according to reports.
