Chicago Bears sign safety Antrel Rolle

After meeting with the team on Tuesday, the Chicago Bears have officially inked safety Antrel Rolle.

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Bears have signed 32 year old, 10 year NFL veteran, 3 time Pro Bowl safety Antrel Rolle.

Last year Rolle had 87 tackles, 3 interceptions and 9 pass breakups for the New York Giants. During his Pro Bowl 2013 season in New York, he tallied 98 tackles, 6 picks, 12 passed defended and 2 sacks. The Bears will be Rolle's 3rd professional team after spending 5 years apiece in New York and in Arizona. He was the 8th overall pick of the Cardinals in 2005 as a cornerback from the University of Miami.

Arizona moved him to free safety in 2008, and he made the Pro Bowl the following season before moving on to the New York Giants and making the Pro Bowl a 2nd time in 2010. Rolle has only missed 1 game since the 2006 season.

As much as the Bears need a talent upgrade at the position, they could also use a respected leader in the locker room. Rolle was a defensive captain during his time in New York and should assist in the culture change taking place at Halas Hall.

The only other safeties on the roster are Ryan Mundy and Brock Vereen, so I would expect some more additions at the position.
