The Chicago Bears have re-signed cornerback Sherrick McManis

Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Pace has been busy adding depth and competition to his roster. Today he brings back six year veteran corner Sherrick McManis.

Just hours after the Chicago Bears announced the signing of outside linebacker Sam Acho, they announce another addition to their roster by re-signing Sherrick McManis.

McManis, who has been a special teams stalwart for the Bears the last three seasons, was originally a draft pick of the Houston Texans in 2010. He has a local connection being from Peoria, Illinois, where he was the state champion in the long jump at Richwoods High School. He also played college football in state at Northwestern.

In his five year NFL career he has appeared in 62 games, mostly in the third phase. Last year he received his most action on defense, when he appeared in 34 snaps against the Miami Dolphins. Pro Football Focus had him down for 46 defensive snaps overall.

He's always played good football at corner in the preseason, but for some reason the 6'1", 193 pound McManis has never cracked a regular defensive rotation. Maybe a new set of eyes on him will make a difference for his career.

What are your thoughts on this signing?

I know of at least two current Bears that are excited about this pickup.
