When I was a wee lad, in the early-mid 1980s, my family moved from central Illinois to Wisconsin. This lasted until 1990, when we moved back. Thank heavens that happened when it did.
In 1992, Don Majkowski was the starting quarterback for the Green Bay Packers. Suffering an ankle ligament injury, he was replaced by Brett Lorenzo Favre.
Favre proceeded to play every game through the end of the 2007 season, and I hate him for it.
Let's run through a quick list of reasons why:
- Lorenzo? Seriously?
- That good ole boy aw shucks vibe
- So many embarrassing losses by the beloved.
- HIS LAST NAME CANNOT POSSIBLY BE PRONOUNCED THAT WAY BASED ON SPELLING
- He was good
Against all odds, Favre was amazingly successful doing a lot of the things "good" quarterbacks don't do. Just run around and chuck it wherever? Check. Backfoot it into double coverage? Check. He won three AP MVP awards doing these things.
But the real reason I hate him? The 23-13 record he compiled against the Bears. I mean, at least it's not his record against the Lions (26-9) lifetime, but guh.
Let's not even talk about the Madden love. My stars, anytime Brett Favre was on the field you could swear Madden was shuffling adoption papers so he can make Favre his son.
Talking about Brett Favre now, after he's finally really retired from football, I still get so angry. I don't think I can even type this anymore.
Now it's your turn. Who is your most hated opponent of all time?
