Chicago Bears Final 53 Man Roster Prediction

Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports

Now that I've had the chance to pour over the entire Chicago Bears roster in my Position Battles series, I'll take a stab at predicting the opening day 53 man roster.

OFFENSE

Quarterback (2): Jay Cutler, Jimmy Clausen

I think the Bears try and get one of their 2 young QBs onto the practice squad.

Runningback (4): Matt Forte, Jeremy Langford, Ka'Deem Carey, Jacquizz Rodgers

If Carey doesn't show an ability to play special teams, Daniel Thomas may edge him out.

Wide Receiver (5): Alshon Jeffery, Eddie Royal, Kevin White, Marquess Wilson, A.J. Cruz (returner)

Cruz may prove more overall usefulness than the other wide out vying for the returner role, Marc Mariani.

Tight End (4): Martellus Bennett, Dante Rosario, Bear Pascoe, Blake Annen

If Zach Miller stays healthy he could beat out Annen, but as we've talked about, that's a big if.

Offensive Line (9): Kyle Long (G), Matt Slauson (G), Will Montgomery (C), Jermon Bushrod (T), Jordan Mills (T), Charles Leno (T), Vladimir Ducasse (G), Michael Ola (G/T), Hroniss Grasu (C)

The Bears obviously hope rookie Tayo Fabuluje does enough to stick, but if not he could find a spot on the practice squad.

Total Offense - 24

DEFENSE

Cornerback (5): Kyle Fuller, Alan Ball, Tim Jennings, Sherrick McManis, Al Louis-Jean

I think the Bears go with the potential in Louis-Jean over veteran Tracy Porter.

Safety (4): Antrel Rolle, Adrian Amos, Brock Vereen, Ryan Mundy

Veteran Sherrod Martin could push Vereen for the 4th spot.

Defensive line (7): Jeremiah Ratliff, Eddie Goldman, Jarvis Jenkins, Ego Ferguson, Will Sutton, Terry Williams, Cornelius Washington

I could see this position group just going with 6 players, with an extra defensive back getting that roster spot.

Linebacker (10): Pernell McPhee (OLB), Lamarr Houston (OLB), Jared Allen (OLB), Sam Acho (OLB), Willie Young (OLB), David Bass (OLB), Christian Jones (ILB), Mason Foster (ILB), Shea McClellin (ILB), Jon Bostic (ILB)

On some nickle and dime situations, the Bears could have 4 OLBs rushing the passer instead of having a defensive lineman on the field.

Total Defense - 26

SPECIAL TEAMS

Kicker (1): Robbie Gould

Punter (1): Pat O'Donnell

Long snapper (1): Thomas Gafford
