At their end of the season address, Chicago Bears' general manager Ryan Pace spoke about adding play-makers to his team. This is kind of a no-brainer, because every team in every sport would love to add play-makers every off season. I understand what Pace was saying though, the Bears need some Pro Bowl type impact players that opposing teams need to game plan around.
Chicago's defense currently doesn't have such a player. Outside linebacker Pernell McPhee looked like a guy that could fit the play-making bill, but a balky knee slowed him for more than half the 2015 season. Perhaps a healthy McPhee, with his ability to line up all over the front 7, can be that guy next year.
On offense the only guy teams have to scheme for is Alson Jeffery. When healthy, Jeffery has proven to be a legit game changing #1 wide out, but health was an issue last year. This offseason the Bears have to get the free agents contract situation figured out. But I assume the Bears will find out some way to ensure Jeffery is back in 2016.
On defense the Bears could use a reliable edge rushing outside linebacker, they need to identify the future at inside linebacker, their secondary needs help and finding a good defensive end is key.
Offensively a lot hinges on whether or not Jeffery is back, but they'll still need to figure out the tight end position (Could Martellus Bennett be traded?), the offensive line needs more talent and if Matt Forte has played his last down for the Bears, do you trust Jeremy Langford to shoulder the load?
So what position do you think is priority #1 for the Bears?
You guys decide their top need in the poll provided, then next week I'll write up a few potential draft and free agent prospects that could fill that need. At that time I'll ask you guys for the Bears' 2nd most important position to fill, then do a write up on the results. And finally we'll determine Chicago's #3 need and I'll write up those prospects as well.
Go vote now.
