The Chicago Bears’ Akiem Hicks has been named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week after his 10 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 tackles for loss, 2 quarterback hits and 1 forced fumble.
Hicks helped lead a solid defensive charge from his d-line spot, as the Bears held the San Francisco 49ers to only 6 points, which was their lowest points allowed on the season.
This year the free agent acquisition has already racked up 6 sacks, which surpasses his previous high in sacks for a season, 4.5, which he set in 2013 with the New Orleans Saints.
For the season, the NFL has Hicks down for 39 total tackles, 6 sacks, 8 tackles for loss, 10 QB hits, 1 pass defense, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery and a blocked kick.
Hicks is signed through the 2017 season, but if he keeps playing like this, I would imagine general manager Ryan Pace would like to extend him.
