Chicago Bears meeting with tight end Jermaine Gresham

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter is reporting that the Chicago Bears are meeting with free agent tight end Jermaine Gresham today. (EDIT: The meeting takes place today 3/11) The Bears have a need at the position because they are shopping the disgruntled Martellus Bennett and Zach Miller is a free agent.

Gresham only had 18 catches last year with the Arizona Cardinals, but he averaged 56 receptions per season from 2010-2014 with the Cincinnati Bengals. He's a 6'5", 260 pound Y tight end that has a reputation of being a good blocker.

The Bears had interest in Gresham last offseason while he was recovering from back surgery before he decided to sign on with the Cardinals.

If the Bears do end up signing Gresham or another tight end, that doesn't necessarily mean that they'd move on from Zach Miller. But it does seem like they have no intention on sticking with Bennett. If the Bears can't finagle a draft pick in return for him, I would expect him to be released.

What are your thoughts on the possibility of the Bears adding Gresham and on their TE position as a whole?

EDIT:

Perhaps the reported meeting didn't take place...
