ESPN Insider Adam Schefter is reporting that the Chicago Bears are working out former Pro Bowl offensive tackle Jake Long this morning. This comes one day after the Bears waived 2nd year offensive tackle Tayo Fabuluje.
Jake, no relation to current Bears offensive guard Kyle Long, made 4 straight Pro Bowls with the Miami Dolphins from 2008 to 2011. The latter part of his career has been full of various injuries to his back, triceps, and two ACL tears. In 2014 he started 7 games for the St. Louis Rams and last season he appeared in 4 games for the Atlanta Falcons as a back up.
Now that he's two years removed from his last ACL injury, he may be healthy enough to contribute to a football team. At 31 years old he should have plenty of gas left in the tank, but he'll have to prove he's 100% healthy.
The Bears signed Bobby Massie to man the right tackle position and they seem confident that Charles Leno can hold down the left side, but a healthy Long would push for the left tackle job and/or provide a veteran swing tackle.
EDIT: The workout must not have been that good because the Bears decided to sign former Carolina Panthers' offensive lineman Nate Chandler. (LINK)
