The Chicago Bears added a fifth quarterback to their roster Friday in an odd transaction.
That fear people have of accidently clicking “reply-all” on a mass email? Well, apparently the New Orleans Saints may have done that.
From Brad Biggs:
According to Fox Sports, the Saints sent an email to the 31 other teams announcing their intention to add Shaw via waivers. That email was supposed to be directed to the NFL office only. Whether that played any role in the Bears landing Shaw remains to be seen. The Bears are ahead of the Saints in the waiver order so if those two teams place a claim, the player is awarded to the Bears.
Connor Shaw was a three-year starter at South Carolina where he played with Alshon Jeffery. Shaw was undrafted in 2014 and signed by the Browns. He is now reunited with his former QB coach in Bears offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains. Loggains was his QB coach in Cleveland as a rookie.
Shaw has one career start in which he went 14/28 for 177 yards no touchdowns and one interception. He spent last season on injured reserve with a thumb injury
He will be competing with Dartmouth undrafted rookie Dayln Williams and David Fales for a possible third spot behind Brian Hoyer and Jay Cutler. The roster was at 89 players before the Shaw move but it would still be a little surprising if they take five QBs to Bourbonnais.
