After being spotted in a walking boot after practice yesterday, Chicago Bears’ starting right guard Kyle Long was held out of practice today. Head coach John Fox said Long has a calf strain calling him “day to day,” and offering up no time table for a return. Just my speculation, but he may sit out all of preseason to ensure he’s ready to roll week 1.
Long himself tweeted out this message to fans, “I'm gonna be fine y'all. I appreciate the kind words and well wishes. Minor speed bump.” Long had an MRI today and as soon as the results are known, we’ll pass it along.
Other Bears missing practice today were OLB Leonard Floyd, OLB Roy Robertson-Harris and OT Nick Becton, all three with an illness and TE Khari Lee with a sprained shoulder. Even though the rookie Floyd vowed to be back at practice, it’s probably best he took another day off considering how hot and humid it was in Bourbonnais today.
Corner Bryce Callahan, wide out Josh Bellamy and defensive lineman Ego Ferguson all battled cramps today.
With Long sidelined it was Ted Larsen filling in at right guard. The other four starting offensive linemen were the same as yesterday, LT Charles Leno, LG Cody Whitehair, C Hroniss Grasu and RT Bobby Massie.
If wide receiver Alshon Jeffery was the stand out performer yesterday, rookie wide out Daniel Braverman was the camp star today.
#Bears 7th round pick WR Daniel Braverman standing out today with 3rd and 4th teams. Open “all day” as one fan just loudly said.

Bears rookie receiver Daniel Braverman with another catch in traffic. He keeps making plays early on.

Braverman was also spotted after practice both days getting in extra work, so you gotta love the kid’s work ethic.
But keep this in mind where reading about how good the receivers are looking. In team sessions there’s no pass rush, there’s no pads and the one on one drills are always more advantageous to the offensive player. If the wide outs weren’t looking good, then that’d be problematic.
Here are a few other tweets from camp.
#Bears DE Akiem Hicks looking unblockable during these team drills. Though young TE Gannon Sinclair is overmatched from the get-go.

This has to be the hottest Bourbonnais practice in at least three years. Very humid. #Bears

No pads yet but rookie Deon Bush made a nice hit to pop the ball out from Cameron Meredith.

The pads go on tomorrow for the first time, so keep in here at Windy City Gridiron for the latest!
