Chicago Bears Training Camp Recap: Top 5 receivers all sidelined, Fox doesn’t trust Jeffery

NFL: Chicago Bears-Training Camp Patrick Gorski-USA TODAY Sports

Today at training camp, starting Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler was working the number one offense with wide receivers Josh Bellamy and Cameron Meredith. This is nothing new for Jay, as these two WRs were forced into quite a bit of action last year due to injuries at the position, but you'd certainly like to see his top targets in action.

Projected starting wide receivers Alshon Jeffery and Kevin White were both sidelined. Jeffery with that hammy issue and White was just given the day off. It was a little rainy in Bourbonnais today, so not a bad time to give a break to a guy.

Wide outs Eddie Royal and Marquess Wilson remain out, Royal with a concussion and Wilson is still on the PUP list. These four receivers are joined on the bench by starting tight end Zach Miller who is dealing with a concussion of his own.

The walking wounded don’t stop there, tight end Greg Scruggs has a bruised lung and was in the hospital, but head coach John Fox expects him to be released today. Fellow TE Ben Braunecker is also still injured (in a walking boot), as are linebackers Roy Robertson-Harris and Nick Kwiatkoski.

A quick note on Jeffery’s injury, Dan Bernstein from WSCR 670AM is reporting that Fox is "considerably upset" that Jeffery is nursing a hamstring and that he’s concerned that he "sandbags." Fox is disappointed that Jeffery skipped some of the Bears offseason workouts and he doesn’t fully trust him.

We’ll have to wait and see how quickly Jeffery returns and if his return leads to a plethora of other soft tissue injuries.

Now onto some Tweets from camp...

Pernell McPhee remains on the PUP list, but he’s getting close to being cleared.

With Brandon Boykin on the injured list, Bryce Callahan is the odds on favorite to win the nickle job.
