After waiving offensive lineman Laurence Gibson and running back Senorise Perry off their practice squad yesterday, and only adding running back Raheem Mostert to their 10 man practice squad, the Chicago Bears were left with one spot to fill.
Today they decided that 10th spot was best utilized for defensive lineman Jimmy Staten, who is the only d-lineman among the group.
Here are the 10 players that make up their current practice squad.
- QB Matt Barkley
- WR Daniel Braverman
- TE Ben Braunecker
- RB Raheem Mostert
- OL Cornelius Edison
- OL Jason Weaver
- DB De'Vante Bausby
- DB Demontre Hurst
- LB John Timu
- DL Jimmy Staten
Staten (6’3”, 311) is a former 5th round pick of the Seattle Seahawks in the 2014 NFL Draft. The Bears are his 5th professional team and he has never appeared in a regular season game. He was with the Chiefs this preseason and he had 1 tackle in each of their 4 games.
He was with the Giants for the 2015 preseason and he registered 5 tackles and a pass defense in three games.
At his Middle Tennessee State Pro Day he benched 225lbs 30 times and if promoted, he could play either the nose or defensive end for the Bears.
Here’s a link to his NFL.com Draft profile.
But let’s check in on what Facebook had to say about Staten, because fans occasionally know best!
“Hawks and their hidden gems....Nobody finds the gold nuggets in the abandoned mine better!”
“5th round magic baby.”
“he'll probably be a hall of fame player”
“I love this pick!!!.....NO bio or info available. This is a Seahawks kind of guy....have had a good amount of success with middle round picks. Just might see JS in the 2017 Pro-Bowl?”
If he makes the 2017 Pro Bowl, it’ll probably be as a Bear now!
Then we have this from his sister, “MY BROTHER IS THE BEST WE FROM THE SOUTH AND HE GONE NOCK EM DOWN BELIVE THAT,” and “This guy is a diamond in the ruff.......expect the unexpected.”
I wonder if he expected to get cut by Seattle?

The Hawks’ loss, was apparently New York’s gain according to this one guy, “So excited he's on the Giants now!
But it wasn’t all good vibes from the people...
“Probably could've gotten this guy as an UDFA”
Which is exactly what Bears’ GM Ryan Pace did.
What are your thoughts on this pick up?
