Man, remember when there was optimism for the season? That seems so long ago. The 0-2 Bears, after a rough game against the Eagles that could leave them without six starters, head into Dallas to face a 1-1 Cowboys’ team coming off a 27-23 win over their divison rival Washington. It’ll be the Bears’ second consecutive game against a rookie quarterback, although like Carson Wentz (190 yards, TD, 86.6 passer rating vs Chicago last week), Dak Prescott hasn’t turned the ball over yet.
Prescott goes up against a Bears’ defense that will be lacking Eddie Goldman, Danny Trevathan, and Harold Jones-Quartey; the Dallas defense likely gets a shot at a Jay Cutler-less Bears’ offense. Outside of the brief Josh McCown stint, this has not been a situation that has worked out for Chicago.
For the Navy and Orange, even though it’s only game three of a 16-game season, hope is fading fast. If they’re going to make a hard push for the postseason, getting on the right track as soon as possible would help. Even if the wheels are about to fall off, for better or worse, several young players should get their time to play - Deiondre’ Hall and Jacoby Glenn on the defensive side could be DB pieces for at least the near future, and offensively, Cody Whitehair is surviving his baptism by fire at center and Jordan Howard should start seeing some more action.
That being said, it’s gameday. Anything’s possible on gameday.
