Bears expected to hire Jeremiah Washburn as offensive line coach

Detroit Lions 2009 Headshots

As reported by numerous outlets, the Chicago Bears are expected to hire Jeremiah Washburn as their offensive line coach, replacing Dave Magazu. Washburn was the assistant o-line coach with the Miami Dolphins during the 2016 season, and prior to that he was the o-line coach of the Detroit Lions from 2013-2015. He was Detroit’s assistant o-line coach from 2009-2012. He worked with the Baltimore Ravens before that, serving as an area scout from 2005-2008 and as a player personnel assistant from 2003-2004.

Washburn has a connection to both Bears head coach John Fox and to offensive coordinator Dowell Loggians. His first NFL coaching gig was as a football operations assistant with the Carolina Panthers in 2002, which was Fox’s first year as a head coach. He crossed paths with Loggians when he was a grad assistant at Arkansas when Loggians played there.

His father, Jim Washburn, has been coaching in the NFL since 1998 and his coaching experience stretches all the way back to the 70s.
