When I last took a gander at a mock draft, it was from ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr., who had the Chicago Bears passing on a quarterback and going with Alabama defensive lineman Jonathan Allen. Kiper’s mock had 1 QB off the Board, North Carolina’s Mitch Trubisky, so he figured Chicago general manager Ryan Pace would elect to take the best player available in Allen.
In the latest mock draft from SB Nation’s Dan Kadar, he has the same 1-2 going off the board as does Kiper. Both had Texas A&M edge rusher Myles Garrett going to the Cleveland Browns with Trubisky going to the San Francisco 49ers. Kadar differs on his 3rd overall pick, electing to give the Bears Notre Dame quarterback DeShone Kizer, saying “The Bears are another team that is likely hitting the reset button at quarterback.” According to Kadar, “Kizer needs coaching up, but he has as much talent and potential as any quarterback in the draft this year.”
We’ve still a long way to go before the order of the top QBs will be determined, but most mocks seem to have Trubisky as the first one being drafted, with Kizer and Clemson’s Deshaun Watson all over the draft boards.
We’ll have to wait and see if Pace and his scouts have the quarterbacks graded so evenly, that they’ll take the next man up if one, or maybe two QBs are off the board.
What do you guys think about this mock? Is Kizer your pick or would you go a different direction?
