What if the Chicago Bears pass on a 1st round quarterback?

NCAA Football: Stanford at California Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

The latest wave of mock drafts (see here and here) have the Chicago Bears taking a quarterback with the 3rd overall selection. Those mocks have Chicago taking Mitch Trubisky from North Carolina and DeShone Kizer from Notre Dame. The other QB that could likely be in play at three is Deshaun Watson of Clemson.

But what if the Bears pass on all three of these guys?

The other popular pick being mocked to the Bears is Alabama defensive lineman Jonathan Allen (see here), which is a likely scenario. This is being called a very good draft for defensive talent, with a couple of d-linemen, a couple of edge rushers and a few defensive backs all positioning for a top ten selection.

The Bears could take a QB early, then hope the depth of the defenders still leaves them with quality later, or they could snag the best player available in the 1st and 2nd round, then try to work in a rookie QB in the mid rounds.

In my latest T Formation Conversation podcast (Subscribe for free on iTunes!), I spotlight a few quarterback options for the Bears if they decide to pass on grabbing their “Guy” early in the 2017 NFL Draft.

There was a glitch earlier today and the wrong podcast was uploaded. It has now been fixed thanks to the quick action from the guys at VSporto! Earlier today it was actually my show from last week, but we’re all good now! I apologize for the mix up.
