When you do something that has never been done before, odds are good that some accolades will follow, so this shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. Chicago Bears’ rookie safety Eddie Jackson is the NFC Defensive Player of the Week.

Jackson returned a fumble 75 yards for a touchdown against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, but that wasn’t all. Later in the game he took an interception back 76 yards for a touchdown. Jackson is the only player in the history of the NFL to have two defensive return touchdowns of at least 75 yards in a single game.

His 151 return yards was only two yards shy of what Chicago’s offense mustered against Carolina. His outstanding performance came exactly oine year from the day he broke his leg in college.

Jackson is only the second rookie safety in the Bears franchise history to win a Defensive Player of the Week Award. The first, Mark Carrier back in 1990.
