Your place for all things fantasy football

Derrick Henry might be a sneaky trade target for the 2nd half of the season
Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

Each week we’re setting aside this time slot to provide a forum for fantasy football conversation. Bring your questions about who to start / sit in the comment section. We’ll also grade trades and listen to how great your team is - seriously, no one else is going to do that. Let’s help each other win our leagues to ensure bragging rights around the neighborhood.

Half of your fantasy season is in the books. Half. That’s unreal. It’s been a roller coaster of injuries, busts, and some pleasant surprises from this rookie class. But, now that we’re half way through, it’s time to give yourself an honest mid-term evaluation on where your team stands.

If you’re in the 5-2, 6-1, or even 7-0 crowd, you’ve set yourself up nicely for the playoffs. Now is the time to make long term plays in the trade market with teams that need help in the immediate future. On one of my 5-2 teams, I made a move last week for Stefon Diggs. He’s battling injuries and has questions at QB, so he’s a risk, but he’s an undeniable talent. Think about trying to trade a team in “win now” mode for a player on their bye week, even if you have to take the hit. Is Derrick Henry a guy that can take over the Tennessee backfield? He’s on bye this week and might be flipped for cheap. At this point, you’re playing for weeks 15 and 16.

If you’re in the middle ground, 3-4 or 4-3, you’ve got a fight on your hands. Depending on the format, you need to have 8 wins to earn a playoff spot. So, you’ll need to repeat or even improve on your first half performance. Every week from here on out needs to get your best shot at a victory. Use that FAAB or waiver priority that you’ve been sitting on, get creative in the trade market. After all, the prize is getting to the playoffs - weeks 15 and 16 come down to health and luck.

If you’re at the bottom, the 2-5, 1-6, or, gulp, 0-7 crowd, I hope that you’re in a league with some element of building for the future. If you’re in a keeper league or can trade draft picks, start trying to sell off your best assets now. Make a speculation play. Focus on high upside guys that can’t help the current owner win this year. If a contender is sitting on a Dalvin Cook in the IR slot but can be a valuable player for you in 2018, see if they’ll take a player that isn’t a flaming pile of wreckage from your roster to help them win in 2017. If you aren’t in a keeper league...well, keep setting your lineup and play the spoiler - and make sure you look into this keeper thing for next year.

In the Official WCG FFB League, I’m happy to report that the Peanut Punchers have pulled into playoff position at 4-3. We’re all chasing Da King in Da North at 7-0 who easily has the best team in the league with Carson Wentz, Antonio Brown, and Le’Veon Bell. Where are all of your teams at? Anyone selling assets and dreaming of 2018 glory?
