Alshon Jeffery staying in Chicago this offseason

NFL: Chicago Bears at Tampa Bay Buccaneers Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

Last year, Chicago Bears wide receiver Alshon Jeffery started his offseason workouts in California with Jay Glazer at his Unbreakable Performance Center. Jeffery then decided to workout in Miami with his personal trainer, rather than attend the Bears’ voluntary work out program at Halas Hall.

Fans blasted him for not being a team player and general manager Ryan Pace said, “I wish he was here, but it’s voluntary, so it is what it is.”

According to Jeffery, his choice of workout location was due to him wanting to put an end to the soft tissue injuries that plagued him in 2015, and working out with Glazer and his personal trainer would get him in the best shape possible. But many wondered if his contract status caused him to stay away.

Alshon did come back to Chicago for the mandatory workouts from the Bears, but the damage was done from a PR standpoint.

Jeffery is still looking for a long term deal after playing on the franchise tag in 2016, and the tag is an option for the Bears again this year. Many analysts believe that Jeffery will be elsewhere for the 2017 season, but for the 2017 offseason, Alshon Jeffery seems to be staying put.

This according to sportscaster and sideline reporter Drea Avent.

Even with the 4 game PED suspension in 2016, Jeffery will be one of the top free agents on the market.

Is him sticking around Chicago a message to the Bears that he’s serious about that Super Bowl guarantee?
