Chicago Bears sign Tom Compton

Philadelphia Eagles v Washington Redskins

The Chicago Bears have added free agent offensive lineman Tom Compton to the mix. The 27 year old Compton is entering his 6th year in the NFL. He was drafted by the Washington Redskins in the 6th round of the 2012 NFL Draft, and he played in Washington for four years making 11 starts. He was a backup with the NFC Champion Atlanta Falcons last season, appearing in all 16 games.

The 6’5”, 308 pound Compton, will probably compete for the swing tackle job, although he has played some guard in the past.

The current starting right tackle of the Bears, Bobby Massie, just had his $1 million roster bonus picked up on March 11th. But don’t assume that his bonus would preclude the Bears from upgrading if the opportunity arose. The Bears were rumored to be in on the top right tackle on the market, Ricky Wagner, before he signed with the Lions.

What are your thoughts on this latest pick up?
