Chicago Bears sign mammoth NT John Jenkins

NFL: New York Giants at New Orleans Saints Matt Bush-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Bears have announced the signing of free agent nose tackle John Jenkins, who is 27 years old, and listed at 6’3”, 359 pounds. Jenkins was originally a 3rd round pick of the New Orleans Saints in 2013, and he played about half of the way into the 2016 season before being waived.

The Seattle Seahawks picked him up late last season and he appeared in two games for them, totaling 32 snaps. He has appeared in 51 games in his career, making 22 starts.

At his size, he’s a true 2-gap space eater in the middle of a defense, with 113 tackles and 1.5 sacks in his four year career. In August of 2015, Jenkins had his weight down to 329 pounds, so we’ll have to wait and see what the Bears list him at.

The former Georgia Bulldog will provide some depth along the Bears defensive line, and he may allow them to kick Eddie Goldman out to defensive end on occasion.
