The Chicago Bears have signed another free agent for depth purposes, this time adding running back Benny Cunningham to a one year contract. The 26 year old Cunningham was originally an undrafted free agent, signed by the St. Loius Rams, out of Middle Tennessee State in 2013.

During his four years with the Rams, he had 3 starts in 57 career games, while rushing for 748 yards (4.4 avg) and four touchdowns, and catching 93 balls for 752 yards, with one receiving TD.

Cunningham has 95 kickoff returns in his career, with a 27.1 avg and his 2,575 kickoff return yards are the 4th most in the NFL since 2013.

With Jordan Howard firmly entrenched as the starter in Chicago, Cunningham will battle it out with Jeremy Langford and Ka’Deem Carey for the back up role. The Bears also have Bralon Addison and David Cobb on the roster at the running back position.
