The NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, is reporting that the Chicago Bears will meet with free agent quarterback Mark Sanchez on Thursday.
Say what?
I suppose since the Bears only have the newly signed Mike Glennon and the returning Connor Shaw on the roster at quarterback, they need another body or two to take into the offseason program.
But Mark Sanchez?
Don’t we already know what the 30 year old Sanchez is at this point in his career?
I guess as a backup, the Bears could do much worse. Sanchez does have 72 starts in his eight year career, but we’re talking about the butt-fumble guy. And we’re talking about a franchise that has to draft a quarterback in the 2017 NFL Draft, aren’t we?
Glennon’s contract is essentially a one year trial, so getting a rookie in the pipeline is a must. If Glennon goes down, I’d rather the Bears turn to a young, unproven signal caller, than turn to a guy like Sanchez.
I’d also rather a rookie get the valuable #2 reps in practice over a veteran trying to hang on to his career.
It is possible that the Bears are just kicking the tires on Sanchez, in the off chance that their quarterbacking plans really, and I mean really, fall through.
Stay tuned, if any news breaks on Sanchez, we’ll be sure to mock it pass it along.
