This has to be one the stranger contracts handed out this free agency period. The Philadelphia Eagles are signing former Chicago Bears wide receiver Alshon Jeffery to a 1 year deal worth $14 million.
It was reported that the Bears, the Indianapolis Colts and the Minnesota Vikings were also in talks with Jeffery leading up to the open of free agency.
Jeffery played last year for the Bears on the franchise tag, in what essentially was a prove it season, and Chicago didn’t think his 52 catches, 821 yards and 2 touchdowns in 12 games was worthy of a long term deal.
By Jeffery agreeing to another 1 year tag-like contract, he’s betting on himself again. He must think a huge season will catapult him to the upper echelon of wide receiver contracts, and playing with a young up and coming quarterback like Carson Wentz was his best option.
What are your thoughts on the Jeffery era in Chicago and on his odd contract?
